It’s amazing how much a timely, expert trim can lift one’s mood. With present-day social distancing measures, I’m confident my hair and I won’t benefit from this opportunity any time soon!
Whether my interest was piqued as the daughter of a timber executive, or as a gearhead fascinated by big machines, one of my highly anticipated projects on the property has been to take care of some long overdue tree maintenance.
Cleaning up dead limbs and diseased wood, on more than a few trees around the tasting room, was no small feat to accomplish. The effort required a crane, a bucket elevator truck, multiple chainsaws, a woodchipper the size of a small moving truck, and a crew of six nimble, fearless young men.
Joining me to supervise, or gawk as the case may have been, was David Ford (pictured), a Sales Specialist with Knudsen Vineyards whose day job is as President and CEO of L&C Carbon, a firm specializing in developing carbon offset market opportunities for forest landowners. David is a professional forester with 35 years of experience in the field, and a WSET Level II certificate holder.
This tree trimming excitement was just the first of a series of projects underway to prepare for our tasting room’s June launch. I feel like we are breathing new life into a steadfast, but somewhat weary, retail space deserving of our attention after serving us and many others so well during the past 45 years. I look forward to sharing more as things progress!
