The early pioneer years at Knudsen Vineyard were rich with exploration and my parents were eager to share the joy of vineyard life with friends and family.
“The entire Knudsen family laid out the first rows in the vineyard and planted the first vines. Cal and Julia Lee’s children and their friends worked at the vineyard for a number of summers before moving away to attend college…”

Established in 1971, four years later, Knudsen Vineyards was the largest vineyard in Oregon. With plenty of fruit heavy on the vines, my parents called upon friends and family to roll up their sleeves and join in the fun of the harvest season.
When guests arrived at the vineyard, each was given a set of clippers and a bucket, with the instruction to head out to a row and start clipping. A full bucket was the ticket to the after-party where wine, food and music were in plentiful supply – one year, a roving accordion player entertained the conscripted workers.
This annual tradition continued to be hosted by my parents for many years.
In 2014, my brothers and I revived the Harvest Party tradition and are elated to reprise the festivities yet again this year as we also commemorate the Knudsen Vineyards 50th Anniversary.
