Tilling with a “Roomba” for the Vineyard

As we prepared to open The Outlook at Knudsen Vineyards, we also continued investing in the long-term health and sustainability of our estate vineyard.

One of the newest additions to our equipment fleet is a double-sided rotary tiller, designed to manage weeds on both sides of each vineyard row without relying on herbicides.

We like to call it the “Roomba of the vineyard.” The machine travels efficiently down each row, removing weeds while carefully avoiding the vines themselves. Using precision sensors, the cultivator blades automatically retract as they approach each vine, allowing the equipment to work quickly without damaging the plants. Once calibrated by our vineyard team, a single pass is all it takes.
