Page Knudsen Cowles

Owner and Managing Partner

What is your history working with Knudsen Vineyards?
My family established Knudsen Vineyards in 1971 and we have planted every vine on the total 230 acre property, currently with 125 acres planted and producing. I worked at the vineyard when I was in high school and college, but became very involved in 2007 when my father turned over the reins of the business to me and my three brothers.

What do you spend most of your time working on at Knudsen Vineyards?
I serve as Managing Partner and oversee all aspects of the enterprise including strategic planning, vineyard management, winemaking and tasting room operations.

What is your favorite part of your role?
Practicing sustainable stewardship of the land and building on the legacy of my family’s pioneering role in the Oregon wine industry. I like participating in industry level efforts that aim to elevate the stature of the Oregon wine industry around the world.

What are your current favorite Knudsen Vineyards wines?
I love all our wines! They are like my children! Each brings its own characteristics – aromas, flavors, and textures – to the palate and the experience. It gives me great pleasure to craft so many distinctive wines from the many unique blocks on our estate vineyard.

What are your current favorite Knudsen Vineyards wines?
The 2021 Plot Twist Chardonnay – on a recent wine “field trip” to Boston, I had the luxury of pairing a local Lobster Roll with a glass of chilled Plot Twist Chardonnay. The buttery lobster with toasted bread and the refreshing stone fruit notes of the Chardonnay married perfectly for a satisfying and memorable lunch.

My favorite is the 2021 Plot Twist Chardonnay. It takes a unique and well-crafted Chardonnay for me to fall in love and we have done it. Pair this with a Dungeness Crab Mac n’ Cheese and you are in heaven.

What are your current favorite Knudsen Vineyards wines?
If I had to pick just one, it would be Knudsen Vineyards Family Series Pinot Noir.  It truly represents Knudsen Vineyards in a glass! My favorite pairing is mushroom-anything with our Pinot noir, which I find are at their prime about 4 years after bottling; and when some of the earthy tones begin to stand out, but not take over. Is anyone else thinking Mushroom Risotto with Oregon Truffles?
